Trump Urges Ukraine to Cease Drone Strikes on Russian Diesel Supplies Amid Fuel Shortages

U.S. President Donald Trump has called upon Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to immediately halt military attacks against Russian diesel infrastructure, warning that the continuous campaign of drone strikes is causing severe fuel shortages.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Irish Open golf tournament at his Trump International Golf Links resort in Doonbeg, Ireland, Trump made the comments when asked if he had spoken with the Ukrainian leader following a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump stated that Ukraine must alter its current targeting priorities and cease damaging Russia's refined fuel network. He remarked that while Ukrainian forces could pursue other military targets, they should refrain from striking diesel fuel supplies, emphasizing that the ongoing disruption is driving a critical scarcity of diesel.

The U.S. president's statements follow months of sustained long-range drone strikes conducted by Ukrainian forces against oil, gas, and refining hubs deep inside Russian territory. Officials in Kyiv have consistently defended the campaign, arguing that Russia's hydrocarbon infrastructure provides both the vital revenue and the direct fuel supplies necessary to support Moscow's invasion, which has now lasted more than four years.

Kyiv's targeted drone operations have inflicted measurable strain on Russia's domestic fuel distribution systems. Despite the Russian Federation being one of the world's leading oil and natural gas producers and exporters, the repeated degradation of processing facilities and storage depots has forced regional authorities across Russia to implement domestic fuel rationing.

In addition to targeting primary energy hubs, Ukrainian drone operations have expanded to strike other major commercial entities within Russia, including prominent online retail networks. Ukrainian strategists have utilized these extended strikes to disrupt domestic operations and bring the realities of the ongoing war directly to the Russian public.

The debate over infrastructure strikes unfolded as both nations engaged in another intense exchange of large-scale drone barrages overnight into Sunday. The reciprocal aerial operations resulted in civilian casualties, extensive infrastructure fires, and widespread damage in both Russian industrial centers and Ukrainian population hubs.

In the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, local authorities confirmed that two civilians were killed and fourteen others were injured when a Ukrainian drone struck near an industrial and refining center. Regional officials from the office of Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov stated that the two victims died after an unmanned aircraft struck a tree adjacent to their parked car in the city of Nizhnekamsk.

The city of Nizhnekamsk represents an essential industrial asset for Russia, housing major oil refineries along with large-scale manufacturing plants for petrochemicals, synthetic rubber, and polymers. Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev confirmed that the overnight strike ignited a blaze at an unspecified local enterprise.

Concurrently, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported that its drone units had executed a successful overnight strike against a major oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, located within Russia's Krasnodar region across from the Crimean peninsula. Ukrainian military intelligence reported that the operation successfully hit a critical oil processing unit as well as the refinery's primary fuel tank farm.

Regional authorities in Krasnodar confirmed that a strike on an enterprise in Slavyansk-on-Kuban resulted in injuries to three people, damaged an oil pipeline, and ignited a significant fire, though they did not directly address the specific Ukrainian claims. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense units had successfully intercepted and destroyed 389 Ukrainian drones overnight across various territories.

At the same time, Russian forces continued their extensive aerial bombardment of Ukrainian cities, launching a heavy nighttime drone offensive against the Black Sea port of Odesa. Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa military administration, reported that at least nine civilians were wounded as Russian drones battered warehouse facilities and commercial sites across the city.

Odesa serves as Ukraine's primary maritime shipping gateway, and its port facilities have faced continuous missile and drone assaults from Russian forces. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly charged that Moscow's ongoing campaign against Odesa is deliberately designed to dismantle the country's logistical infrastructure and choke off vital commercial maritime exports.

The overnight bombardment in Odesa followed a deadly Russian strike on Saturday, when a drone hit a residential high-rise building in the city, killing two people and injuring 26 others. Furthermore, Russian strikes targeted western regions of Ukraine overnight, sparking blazes in proximity to a vital border crossing connecting Ukraine with Poland.
