Georgia Police Seek Trespasser Caught on Video in Bizarre Hot Tub Incident and Luxury Towel Theft

Law enforcement authorities in southeastern Georgia are actively searching for an unidentified man following a highly unusual residential trespassing and theft case. Investigators reported that the individual unlawfully entered a private backyard, spent hours utilizing the homeowner's pool and hot tub, engaged in strange behavior with a rubber duck, and ultimately fled the property with expensive linens.

The Chatham County Police Department released details regarding the investigation, asking for community assistance in identifying the suspect. According to authorities, the man gained unauthorized entry to a private residence, where surveillance cameras captured him indulging in the homeowner’s amenities before exhibiting what officers characterized as an intense fixation on a floating bath toy.

The incident took place during the overnight hours of September 1 at a residence located in the 9000 block of Whitefield Avenue. Timestamped security camera footage provided to investigators revealed that the intruder remained on the residential property for more than three hours, arriving at approximately 2:15 a.m. and lingering until roughly 5:30 a.m.

According to police accounts derived from the video footage, the intruder first went for a swim in the homeowner’s outdoor pool. After spending time in the pool water, the man transitioned over to the adjacent hot tub, where his actions took an unexpected and peculiar turn that was documented in detail by the home's perimeter surveillance system.

While relaxing in the heated water, the man noticed a rubber duck left behind in the hot tub. Law enforcement officials noted that the trespasser appeared to become instantly infatuated with the yellow novelty item, dedicating his continuous and undivided focus toward the toy for a significant portion of his stay.

Chatham County police stated that the security recording shows the suspect spending more than 10 minutes intensely interacting with the rubber duck. The prolonged encounter prompted law enforcement to describe the suspect as having developed an apparent obsession with the object during his unauthorized late-night visit.

Surveillance stills made public by the police department illustrate parts of the encounter, though the grainy, black-and-white quality of the night-vision footage leaves specific details somewhat indistinct. In one captured image, the man can be seen holding the rubber duck close to his face, though officials noted that it remains unclear exactly what specific actions he was carrying out with the toy.

While acknowledging the unusual nature of the intruder's behavior, authorities emphasized that trespassing onto private property and violating personal boundaries is a serious matter. Law enforcement underscored that such intrusions create significant distress and unease for homeowners who discover strangers on their premises.

In an official statement regarding the case, the Chatham County Police Department directly addressed the unsettling aspects of the intruder's conduct. Officials noted that while the incident is not the largest crime handled by the department in recent weeks, the high degree of personal discomfort it causes makes identifying and locating the individual a top priority to prevent future occurrences.

The suspect’s activities on the property did not end with his time in the hot tub, as he proceeded to commit a significant theft before making his exit. Prior to leaving the premises, the man gathered up a collection of high-end towels that were situated in the outdoor pool area.

Police reported that the intruder stole six luxury beach towels belonging to the homeowner. With each designer towel valued at approximately $200, the total value of the stolen goods reached $1,200, elevating the theft to a substantial financial loss for the property owners.

Surveillance cameras subsequently recorded the suspect’s departure as he made his escape in the pre-dawn hours. The footage showed the man pedaling away from the Whitefield Avenue property on a bicycle, having loaded the six stolen luxury towels into a basket attached beneath the bicycle.

Investigators noted that the security footage has been instrumental in establishing the timeline of events, documenting the suspect's behavior, and confirming the method of his getaway. Police are using the images in hopes that members of the community can assist in determining the man's identity.

The Chatham County Police Department is urging anyone who recognizes the suspect from the surveillance photos or who has any relevant information concerning the September 1 incident to contact law enforcement authorities immediately to assist in resolving the case.
